One of my writing goals of 2020 is to join in the fun of participating in Poetry Friday on a more regular basis. A few weeks ago I read Amy Ludwig Vanderwater’s poem “Wintertimes” at her blog on The Poem Farm. Amy explained that the structure of the poem is a triolet – an eight line poem with repeating lines and rhyming lines. It follows the pattern A, B, a, A, a, b, A, B. I thought it was so interesting, so I decided to try it out for myself.
Declarations
Love declared in wondrous ways.
A borrowed line, a gift, a song.
Through tranquil nights. Through hectic days.
Love declared in wondrous ways.
A look, a touch, a secret phrase.
The bond between us deep and strong.
Love declared in wondrous ways.
A borrowed line, a gift, a song.
You can find today’s poetry roundup at Carol’s Corner. You’re invited!
Oh, what a beautiful triolet! I loved that post of Amy’s as well and made sure to give writing a triolet a try after seeing hers. I support you in participating more in PF. It’s a wonderful community and it really helps one grow as a writer. Best to you!

Oh, this is a lovely poem! The form fits the topic well, and your repeating lines are touching, like the subject. I’m hoping to participate more in Poetry Friday this year, too.

Triolets, both the structure and the rhyming, seem a little tricky to this free verse writer. You’ve definitely pulled it off. Your poem feels like a perfect Valentine card!

What a lovely triolet! I read Amy’s post as well and it reminded me how much I love this form when it works well–like it does here! I’ve been fooling around with one in my notebook, too. You’ve inspired me to go back and see if I can polish it up. Looking forward to seeing more of you at PF this year!
